Desirable qualities to be developed through a visual arts program

There are several good and relevant traits or qualities that a high school student who has taken a visual arts program is expected to cultivate. Some of these qualities are discussed below.

1. The trick:
A resourceful person is able to make full use of the resources available in his environment in achieving greater things. Through the Visual Arts Program, the learner is trained in how to draw on the artistic tools, materials, and equipment available in his environment to produce creative and useful products. They learn to understand the need for self-sufficiency. Even when resources are scarce, they try to draw on what few resources are available to produce artefacts that meet the needs of the community.

2. Action oriented:
The Visual Arts program is practical-based and thus helps learners acquire the practical skills needed to solve most of the challenges facing the job market today. These hands-on activities also help in exercising the body and keeping it always healthy.

3. The Good Citizen:
A fine artist is trained to produce works of art for the benefit of his community and the nation as a whole. This helps the artist in exercising his civil rights and duties, thus making him a good citizen.

4. Imagination:
A visual arts student is supposed to be very creative, and be able to generate a lot of new ideas from their environment of both living and non-living things.

5 – Monitor:
In order for the artist to be able to accurately depict scenery drawings as they are, he must be observant. He is expected to produce works of art to communicate his observations to the general public. He must be alert to changes in his environment so that he can communicate them clearly in his works.

6. Easy to manage:
The need to manage personal resources for optimum satisfaction in life can be met by acquiring practical skills in planning and organizing through art. By applying these skills to his personal resources, the learner becomes better able to manage his resources.

7. Scientific and technological knowledge:
The learner is trained on how to apply scientific knowledge in life. This comes as the learner works with tools, materials, and processes. Applies basic scientific knowledge in its use, handling, and care.

The learner also applies technological knowledge in the production of their own handicrafts. This enables him to produce his artefacts at a faster rate and in large quantities. Learners are taken through how to use modern technological tools and machines for their artistic production.

8. Peaceful:
The skills needed to build healthy family and human relationships are reflected in the artistic activities. Disparate design elements such as line, shape, texture, etc. are well organized into pleasing relationships. This enables the learner to live in peace with people from diverse cultures.

9. Creativity:
The student is expected to develop the ability to bring something new into existence. This can be achieved by organizing and exploring artistic materials, tools, and techniques in achieving various effects. Also, creative thinking is developed when the learner engages in systematic problem-solving activities such as identifying, selecting, composing and analyzing ideas to create artefacts.

10. Sociable:
The student is expected to be friendly with the people he interacts with in the community. This can be achieved if the student engages in leisure and recreational activities such as visiting art galleries, exhibitions, museums, national parks, etc.

11. Appreciate:
That the student appreciates the cultural heritage of the nation. This can be done by acquiring knowledge in art history and appreciating and criticizing artefacts. These activities will help the student to understand the meanings and usefulness of the arts for a better appreciation.

12. Self-discipline:
Preliminary design and planning is given special importance in the Visual Arts programme. This quality is very relevant because it helps artists to be honest, to always meet project completion deadlines and appointments.

13. Patience:
The need for endurance and longsuffering is emphasized in the visual arts programme. Through the careful organization of the art forms and the careful depiction of the artworks, the learner develops an attitude of waiting or patience. This helps him deal with the stress and tension of life.
